Noah Johansen, Marquess Felding, is determined to find a wife. Each of his friends had married well, and for love, yet Noah has not found a match for himself. Despite how much he has looked amongst the ton, Noah has come to the conclusion that he will not be as lucky as his friend and has decided to make the best match for himself and sets out to court a lady who appears suitable and hopes that deeper emotions will develop in time. Rosalind Valentine has been in love with Marquess Felding since she was in the schoolroom. She knows Felding and his family well from having grown up in the vicarage not far away from his estate. She also knows that he would never be hers given her humble background and family secrets. As much as it pains her to watch him court another, Rosalind knows it is for the best and is determined to be content in her position as a nursery maid for his sister. Noah realizes that the lady he set to court is not the lady he wishes to be tied to for life and also begins to see Miss Rosalind Valentine in an entirely different light. Had he been looking in the wrong place for love? Had she been as close as next door? Will circumstances beyond his control keep him from making a Christmas Match?

His Christmas Match is book four in A Gentleman’s Guide to Once Upon A Time series by Jane Charles. His Christmas Match is also book one in The Valentine Trilogy. Charles uses the friends to lovers trope. I enjoyed the story but I found problems with editing to be quite overwhelming. There were so many misspelled words and even wrong word usage that I had a hard time focusing on the story itself. I really liked the heroine Rosalind Valentine. She is one of those gracious and loving characters that just gets into your heart. And the hero Noah the Marquess of Felding is quite the handsome hero. My biggest qualms with Charles’ books is that I never know where to start in a series. This book is actually the fourth in a series, but also the first in the Valentine Trilogy. I loathe reading a book and feeling like I am missing out on information…like I should have started with some other book out there. I wish Ms. Charles had a chronological list of books on her website to aid stubborn readers like me who like to start at the beginning and work our way through a series. Having characters from past books entwined in stories is only fun if you have read the books they are in. Otherwise, as a reader, I just feel like I am missing a huge piece of the story puzzle. I am going to continue reading in her Valentine Trilogy and hopefully, I won’t feel quite so lost.
