The Perfect Debutante is book one in The Perfect Regency Series by Annabelle Anders. I have had the privilege of being on Ms. Anders Advanced Readers Copy team for several years. She writes with a courage and depth that is rare in the historical romance genre. In this book, she gives a trigger warning at the very beginning. This story includes a heroine who struggles with self harm in the form of cutting, something that would not have been understood during the Regency era. Although it is a destructive and heartbreaking habit, Anders handles this delicate topic with sensitivity. Louella Rose Redfield is a likable heroine. She is a complicated character with many layers, but once those layers are peeled back, a relatable woman is revealed. The hero Captain Cameron Denning, Maquess of Stanton made a promise to his father prior to leaving the country, that upon his return he would marry. So he agrees to an arranged marriage with Louella. At first he is thrilled with her beauty and grace, but not is all as it appears with Louella. There are several steamy scenes, but Anders writes those masterfully. I look forward to the next book in this series.
