Lady Bethany Wellstone’s season in London was cut short when her father is killed in a duel. She believes it is a sign—a sign that she was never meant to marry. Besides, no one can ever live up to the man she’s secretly loved for most of her life—a man who also happens to be one of her brother’s closest friends.
“Chase” the Baron of Chaswick, is far too much of a rake to notice the likes of Bethany. Aside from being the most beautiful man she’s ever known, he’s charming, kind and all a woman could ever want. She’ll suffer her unrequited love from the sidelines. It ought to be enough. And it is.
Cocky Baron is book two in the Regency Cocky Gents series. I can’t say enough good things about this book. Anders weaves a complexity into her characters that breathe life into them. I think this heroine – Bethany Fitzwilliam is one of my favorites. She’s quirky and vulnerable, but also loving and strong. She has been in love with her brother’s best friend Chase for as long as she can remember. While attending a ball, she learns that a trap has been set for him so she goes out to a dark garden to find him. Chase mistakes her for his mistress and a rather hilarious but scandalous scene follows. Their lives are forever turned upside down. Although this can be read as a stand-alone, I recommend reading Cocky Earl first. Characters overlap. There are a number of steamy scenes. But my personal opinion is that this author is a master with her pen when it comes to “behind the bedroom door” scenes. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
