The Cookie Crumbles by Jan Fields is book seven in the Chocolate Shoppe Mysteries. I enjoyed this story, but not as much as the previous one. The last book had a little romantic tension in it, which I always love, and this one did not have any. Also, all of these books are beginning to remind me too much of a Murder She Wrote episode. The protagonist just happens to stumble on a dead body while whipping up goodies in her small-town bakery. I will also say that all the talk of pecan pumpkin muffins made me especially hungry. Every book has a recipe on the last page which is a nice touch. In this story, Jillian Green and her great-aunt Cornelia bid on a storage unit filled with all kinds of interesting objects. When they realize an old map is included, it sends Jillian and her friends on a harrowing adventure. Most of the activity in the previous books takes place around the little town of Moss Hollow, Georgia. Jillian spends time on the outskirts of the town in search of the map’s secrets. She faces danger from a shadowy stranger and ridicule from the local sheriff. This is a cozy, sweet mystery and a very easy read.
