Presenting the winner of the Avon FanLit contest, the immensely talented Tessa Dare! Tessa’s first Avon historical romance, A Night to Surrender, is a love story to remember—kicking off her wonderfully inventive Spindle Cove series, set in England’s Regency Era in a small seaside resort town that caters specifically to ladies “of good breeding and delicate constitution.” Fans of Lisa Kleypas, Christina Dodd, and Liz Carlyle will delight in the passionate chaos that ensues when a dashing British officer, under orders, “invades” this community of strong-willed “spinsters,” only to discover he’s met his match in Miss Susannah Finch!

A Night to Surrender is book one in the Spindle Cove series. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I liked the world that Tessa Dare has built. There are so many unique characters in this series. Spindle Cove is a hideaway for women who need time to heal and find their own place in the world. The heroine Susanna Finch has worked hard to create a safe place for these single spinsters or widowed women. I also enjoyed the humor. I laughed out loud at so many points in the story that I was sorry to finish it. There are a number of very steamy scenes so during those parts I just read the dialogue. I also enjoyed the historical side of this story. In 1813, the war against Napoleon Bonaparte was raging and had another two years to go. I liked how Dare wove the real fear that Britons faced of a possible invasion by Bonaparte and thus the need for the hero the Earl of Rycliff to amass a militia to defend the coastline of Spindle Cove. All of those elements give the story a touch of reality and make the characters more relatable. Loved it!
