Baron Clay Beverley’s heart cannot be touched. He comes to King Henry II’s decadent court to make his accounting, not to dally with the pretty women adorning the castle. But when two gorgeous ladies come to his bed, he’s sorely tempted. Only one of the twins draws him. There is something more to her than the promise of fleeting pleasure.

Lady Liana Lichfield pretends to be a sensual plaything to keep her sister safe from their uncle’s abuse. Sweetly naïve, her sister believes that sex equals love. Liana accompanies her on her nightly quests and comforts her through her inevitable disappointment. But when Lord Clay takes her—the first man to make love to her—she thinks that her sister might not be daft after all.

Can she trust her heart to Clay? What of her and her sister’s safety? Can Clay convince her that more than pleasure can be found in the baron's bed?

“In The Baron’s Bed” is book two In The Castle Book series by JoMarie DeGioia. I struggled through this book. Perhaps I missed out because I haven’t read the first book in the series. Twin sisters live under King Henry II’s protection at his court. When Baron Clayton Beverly rides in to counsel Henry, the twins approach him for a rendezvous. The twins appear as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb characters – mimicking each other and acting like simpletons. But there is more to one of the twins, Liana, than the other. I think I struggled with the plot of this story. The twins turn to promiscuity with the men of the castle to protect themselves from their wicked uncle. It’s hard to believe that the life they have chosen is worse than being with their uncle. Overall, I would have to give this book three stars.
