- [The Siren of Sussex by Mimi Matthews](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-siren-of-sussex-by-mimi-matthews/): The Siren of Sussex is book one in the Belles of London series. Mimi Matthews is one of those authors that I admire for her historical knowledge and accuracy. She is also a horsewoman. This particular story highlights her skill in that area as well.  In this story, she demonstrates the struggles between class and […]
- [Christmas Wishes of Love by Julie Johnstone](https://romanceloverblog.com/christmas-wishes-of-love-by-julie-johnstone/): Christmas Wishes of Love is book 11 in the Highlander Vows Entangled Hearts series. It can be read as a standalone, but I generally recommend reading a series in order. The characters are richer and deeper that way. Overall, I enjoyed this book, but it wasn’t my favorite in the series. That honor belongs to […]
- [Make Believe with the Marquess by Annabelle Anders](https://romanceloverblog.com/make-believe-with-the-marquess-by-annabelle-anders-review/): I really enjoyed this story. I loved the unexpected twists and turns in the plot. Ranulf Winters, the Marquess of Sexton is a surprisingly intrepid hero. An aristocrat and a detective rolled into one. Evermore is a master of peeling back the layers […]
- [Rescuing the Lady by Daisy Landish](https://romanceloverblog.com/rescuing-the-lady-by-daisy-landish-review/): Rescuing the Lady is book one in the Gillington Collection series by Daisy Landish. I’m torn about how to rate this book. Most of it reads like a report and not a narrative. The story line is quite far-fetched and melodramatic. I’m reminded of an old black and white silent movie, where the heroine is […]
- [Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean](https://romanceloverblog.com/nine-rules-to-break-when-romancing-a-rake-by-sarah-maclean-review/): This book was magnificent – toe-curling romance, tearful sighs, laugh-out-loud moments and a swoon-worthy hero. I truly felt touched by this story. The heroine is so real and vulnerable that I could relate to her. She is a spinster who has decided that she is weary of living her life confined to the strictures of […]
- [Holly, Mistletoe and Midnight Snow by Collette Cameron](https://romanceloverblog.com/holly-mistletoe-and-midnight-snow-by-collette-cameron-review/): I loved this story. If this is your first time reading Cameron’s books, I encourage you to snap them up. Holly, Mistletoe and Midnight Snow is actually book number four in The Westbrook Bride’s series. Each book can be read as a stand alone, but they are richer when read in sequence. I think the […]

Kate’s temple is marred by a birthmark that most people shy away from. And […]
- [Any Duchess Will Do by Tessa Dare](https://romanceloverblog.com/any-duchess-will-do-by-tessa-dare-review/): Any Duchess Will Do is book four in the Spindle Cove series. I liked this book, but I struggled with the premise. The Duke of Halford who is mentioned in book three as a thoroughly debauched and dissolute individual, comes to Spindle Cove with his pushy mama. His mama the Duchess wants him to marry […]
- [Once Upon a Winter's Eve by Tessa Dare](https://romanceloverblog.com/once-upon-a-winters-eve-by-tessa-dare-review/): Once Upon a Winter’s Eve is book 1.5 in the Spindle Cove series by Tessa Dare. This story is intricately written with details of not just London in the early 1800’s, but also of the American west. Christina Bennett is a captivating heroine who hides her identity from the hero the Marquis of Lyonwood. She intrigues him almost to the […]

Highlanders Never Forget is book three in the Wicked Willful Highlanders series. This book can be read as a stand alone. Adeline and Alex’s tale is often a complicated one. The heroine Juliana de Nerra was […]

A master storyteller, Leveque weaves historical Medieval facts all through her romances and just makes them come alive. But the plot in Queen of Lost Stars is just plain hokey. In 1320, Madelayne Gray l’Ebreux loses her husband in battle, and when his second in command […]

- [Alternate Endings by Brittany Anne](https://romanceloverblog.com/alternate-endings-by-brittany-anne/): Alternate Endings by Brittany Anne is a contemporary romance with a second chance trope. I think this book is fairly well written. Ms. Anne does a good job of giving her characters depth. Each has past hurts and responds to life and each other through those shaded glasses. The heroine Charlotte McKinley is often confusing. She’s […]
- [Felice By Kathleen Bittner Roth](https://romanceloverblog.com/felice-by-kathleen-bittner-roth/): Felice is book two in the Bayou Bad Boys series by Kathleen Bittner Roth. This series picks up where the  “When Hearts Dare” series ends. Although it isn’t necessary to read that series before this one, I think it would add to the reader’s experience to read them in order. This book is very well […]

This is definitely not a typical romance. Candle confronts hard issues in this story such as drug addiction, sex, slavery and the limitations on women participating in “trade” during the late 1700’s to early 1800’s. Mistress […]

Kiersten Modglin has a talent for writing intelligent “edge of your seat” stories – stories that twist and turn unexpectedly. I literally stayed up all night reading because I couldn’t put the book down, and I normally only read historical romance. I loved the intelligent dialogue and the witty […]

In all the other […]
- [In Bed With The Earl by Christi Caldwell](https://romanceloverblog.com/in-bed-with-the-earl-by-christi-caldwell/): In Bed with The Earl is book one in the Lost Lords of London series by Christi Caldwell. Although it is a stand-alone – truly, I recommend reading this book after Courting Poppy Tidemore. - [One Night of Scandal By Darcy Burke](https://romanceloverblog.com/one-night-of-scandal-by-erica-ridley/): One Night of Scandal is book four in The Wicked Dukes Club series by Darcy Burke. This book is written by Burke and is very well done. I thought it started a little bit slow but once the pace picked up, I couldn’t put the book down. I really liked both of the main characters. […]
- [To Steal A Duke's Heart by Audrey Ashwood and Rosie Wynter](https://romanceloverblog.com/to-steal-a-dukes-heart-by-audrey-ashwood-and-rosie-wynter/): I enjoyed this book.  I liked Grace and Catherine’s friendship. With quite a bit of humor, their relationship proceeded logically in the story. I did wish for more description of the setting and the characters. I found that there were times of “white room syndrome” – a lack of grounding when the setting is not […]
- [Songbird By Gail Meath](https://romanceloverblog.com/songbird-by-gail-meath/): Songbird is book one in the Jax Diamond series by Gail Meath. I normally only read romance, but I came across this book when I entered a reading contest several years ago. This book was a delightful change of pace. I loved this book. - [Hanover Square Spare by Annabelle Anders](https://romanceloverblog.com/hanover-square-spare-by-annabelle-anders-review/): I enjoyed this book. This story is special because it features a wonderfully curvy heroine named Goldie. I loved the way she had held a torch for the hero Reed. - [Her Highland Fling by Jennifer McQuiston](https://romanceloverblog.com/her-highland-fling-by-jennifer-mcquiston/): Her Highland Fling is a short novella in the Second Sons series by Jennifer McQuiston. I highly recommend reading this entire series from start to finish. Her Highland Fling is a short novella that is best read as the fourth book in the series. The story follows Penelope Tolbertson, the older sister of Caroline Tolbertson, the heroine from What Happens in Scotland. Penelope is a beautiful spinster who copes with a debilitating stutter. Despite facing frequent ridicule, she possesses a steadfast spirit, and by the end of book two, she secures a position as a journalist for a Brighton newspaper. A […]
- [Summer is For Lovers by Jennifer McQuiston](https://romanceloverblog.com/summer-is-for-lovers-by-jennifer-mcquiston/): Summer Is For Lovers is book two in the Second Sons series by Jennifer McQuiston. I enjoyed this unique story set in Brighton in 1842. The hero of this story David Cameron is a rake and a villain from book one. The heroine is a younger sister quickly approaching spinsterhood named Caroline Tolbertson whose family’s financial state is on the edge of ruin. Caroline’s father, the former owner of the Brighton newspaper, has died and left the family on the edge of penury. Caroline feels pressured to marry a wealthy man to rescue her family, but she harbors a secret that […]
- [To Marry A Highland Marauder by Collette Cameron](https://romanceloverblog.com/to-marry-a-highland-marauder-by-collette-cameron/): To Marry A Highland Marauder is book seven in The Heart of A Scot series by Collette Cameron. I adored this book. When I picked up “To Marry A Highland Marauder,” I was so entranced, that the last thing I remember was seeing my digital clock read 4:11 A.M. I literally couldn’t put this book down and so lost track of time and read all night.  Hopefully, you are reading through this entire series. This book is Bethea Granville’s story whose guardian is the hero Keane Buchannan from To Defy A Highland Duke. A year after that story ends, Bethea attends […]
- [What Happens In Scotland by Jennifer McQuiston](https://romanceloverblog.com/what-happens-in-scotland-by-jennifer-mcquiston/): What happens in Scotland is book one in the Second Sons series by Jennifer McQuiston. This was my first time reading a book by this author and I have to say that I was enchanted. I even lost some much needed sleep because I couldn’t put it down. In this story, Lady Georgette Thorold awakens wedded next to a brawny Scots man of whom she has no memory. I was fascinated by the plot because for much of the book the hero and heroine are trying to piece together what happened in their blurry memories. I loved how vividly the author […]
- [Mask of Duplicity by Julia Brannan](https://romanceloverblog.com/mask-of-duplicity-by-julia-brannan/): Mask of Duplicity is book one in The Jacobite Chronicles by Julia Brannan. I truly enjoyed this historical fiction. Set in England in 1742, this story takes place a few years prior to the Jacobite Rebellion. Brannan paints an accurate picture of the political tensions of the time between the reigning British King George II of Hanover and the Young Pretender Charles Edward Stuart, who was in fact the legal heir. At the heart of the conflict rested a deeply religious struggle between Catholicism and Protestantism. The heroine, Elizabeth Cunningham, has been running her estate alone after the death of her […]
- [Cocky August Rake by Annabelle Anders](https://romanceloverblog.com/cocky-august-rake-by-annabelle-anders/): Cocky August Rake by Annabelle Anders is book eight in the Rake Review, a compilation of romances by various authors. In this book, Lord Reginald Preston has “inherited” his brother the Duke of Malum’s brothel or seraglios The Domus Emporium. The Domus actually is more than a brothel; it is an exclusive seraglios or “convent” serving high end clientele and equipped with beautiful furniture, servants and its own carriage. It is considered to be the most prestigious and exclusive club in London. It boasts poetry readings, theatrical productions, gaming but most of all relations with specially trained courtesans. The clientele are […]
- [Her Officer and Gentleman by Karen Hawkins](https://romanceloverblog.com/her-officer-and-gentleman-by-isabella-bradford/): Her Officer and Gentleman is book two in the Just Ask Reeves duology by Karen Hawkins. Although I truly enjoy her books, this title completely threw me off. I kept expecting there to be an officer in the mix, but there are no officers in the plot. I’m surmising that when this book was published in 2006 along with book one, Master and Commander, Avon, the publishing house, was wanting to get some traction from the movie Master and Commander starring Russell Crowe and the classic Richard Gere movie An Officer and a Gentleman. Both great flicks, by the way. Regardless […]
- [The Viscount’s Vow by Collette Cameron](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-viscounts-vow-by-collette-cameron-2/): The Viscount’s Vow is one of those page-turning romances that I couldn’t put down. This is book one in Collette Cameron’s Castle Bride’s series. I absolutely loved the heroine in this story. Evangeline Caruthers is such a gentle loving soul. I have grown weary of “independent sassy heroines” who are actually just hard-hearted. The hero Ian Warrick is a swoon-worthy rogue filled with angst and the desire for revenge after his brother and father died. His desire to see justice done leads him to commit a foolish act that forever seals his own fate. Not everything is as it appears on […]
- [The Cookie Crumbles by Jan Fields](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-cookie-crumbles-by-jan-fields/): The Cookie Crumbles by Jan Fields is book seven in the Chocolate Shoppe Mysteries. I enjoyed this story, but not as much as the previous one. The last book had a little romantic tension in it, which I always love, and this one did not have any. Also, all of these books are beginning to remind me too much of a Murder She Wrote episode. The protagonist just happens to stumble on a dead body while whipping up goodies in her small-town bakery. I will also say that all the talk of pecan pumpkin muffins made me especially hungry. Every book […]
- [Bittersweet Demise by Mary M. O’Donnell](https://romanceloverblog.com/bittersweet-demise-by-mary-m-odonnell/): Bittersweet Demise by Mary M. O’Donnell is book six in the Chocolate Shoppe Mysteries. This story is a cozy mystery centered around a small-town bakery. Red-headed Jillian Green has returned to Moss Hollow, Georgia, to assist her grandmother Bertie in running the family bakery. Much like Angela Lansbury in Murder, She Wrote, murder seems to follow Jillian wherever she goes in this town. When Jillian and her best friend Savannah visit a garage sale at a neighbor’s home, Jillian buys a small terra-cotta vase with Mayan inscriptions on it that opens up a world of danger. Like other cozy mysteries, O’Donnell […]
- [Scone Cold Revenge by Jan Fields](https://romanceloverblog.com/scone-cold-revenge-by-jan-fields/): Scone Cold Revenge is written by Jan Fields and is book five in the Chocolate Shoppe Mysteries series. As these cozy mysteries go, there is murder, a bakery, mystery, and humor all rolled into one story. Fields does a good job of developing her characters. Even though this book can be read as a standalone, I recommend starting at the beginning of the series with Double Fudge Murder. I think it is a better experience and gives background on numerous characters. In this book, Jillian Greene is running her grandmother Bertie’s bakery in the little town of Moss Hollow, Georgia. When […]
- [Double Fudge Murder by Jan Fields](https://romanceloverblog.com/double-fudge-murder-by-jan-fields/): Double Fudge Murder by Jan Fields is the first book in the Chocolate Shoppe Mystery series. There are twenty-four books in the series, some written by different authors. So far, Jan Fields is my favorite. This author writes with a touch of romance, humor, and Southern charm that I adore. The protagonist, Jillian Green, moves from California back to her hometown, Moss Hollow, Georgia, after a disastrous relationship. Jillian’s grandmother, Bertie Harper, asks her to run her bakery/catering business. Jillian finds her new “quiet” life as a baker is anything but when her old arch nemesis dies from a poisoned cupcake […]
- [The Baron's Open Arms by Annabelle Anders](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-barons-open-arms-by-annabelle-anders/): The Baron’s Open Arms by Annabelle Anders is book two in the Scoundrels with Secrets series. I really enjoyed this story. With the passage of six months between the first two books, I decided to read them in tandem to refresh my memory, and I’m so glad I did. I began with The Duke I Lost and, around chapter twenty-one, I switched to The Baron’s Open Arms. Then I pivoted back and forth between the two books. I found this to be a fabulous way of taking in the timeline of the story. Anders is a master storyteller, and she weaves […]
- [The Duke I Lost by Annabelle Anders](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-duke-i-lost-by-annabelle-anders/): The Duke I Lost is book one in the Scoundrels with Secrets series by Annabelle Anders. This book was an amazing ride. I thought each character was well developed and had depth. I loved the heroine Ambrosia and the hero Dash. Both are complicated characters who felt real and believable. I ran through a whole gamut of emotions – from euphoria to despair and back to happiness again. I had some definite school girl giggling moments. There are toe curling steamy scenes in this story so have a fan nearby, and the story has intelligent, thoughtful dialogue. Well done, Ms Anders.
- [A Much Maligned Miss by Alice Coldbreath](https://romanceloverblog.com/a-much-maligned-miss-by-alice-coldbreath/): A Much Maligned Miss by Alice Coldbreath is book two in the Reversal of Fortune series. I tried to like this story, especially after struggling through the first book, “A Foolish Flirtation,” but I just couldn’t connect with the plotline. I have to say that, once again, this author really needs to focus on editing her stories. This book was overbloated with unnecessary, steamy, explicit scenes that detracted from the basic plot. I thought it started off strong and had great potential. Caroline Halperston is a woman with a maligned reputation—maligned by her own mother. When the Earl of Atherton offers […]
- [A Foolish Flirtation by Alice Coldbreath](https://romanceloverblog.com/a-foolish-flirtation-by-alice-coldbreath/): A Foolish Flirtation is book one in the Reversal of Fortune series by Alice Coldbreath. To be completely honest, I struggled through this book. I had never read this author’s work before, so I was excited to discover someone new to me. A Foolish Flirtation is touted as a standalone; however, this book is apparently a spin-off of A Bride for the Prizefighter. Jeremy Vance was a memorable side character in that book, and he is now the hero. Coldbreath includes characters from previous stories without much explanation or background. I felt like a hungry waif pressing my nose against a […]
- [Love and Cherish by Dorothy Garlock](https://romanceloverblog.com/love-and-cherish-by-dorothy-garlock/): Love and Cherish by Dorothy Garlock is a frontier historical romance set in the rugged backwoods of 1779 Kentucky. Cherish Riley is a young woman running for her life when a back woodsman named Sloan Carroll rescues her. Much of the story is about the development of their relationship as they travel through dangerous woods to get to safety and his homestead.  I enjoyed this book. I haven’t read a western historical romance in a few years and I found this tale engaging. I cannot even remember how I stumbled across it, but I’m glad I did. Cherish is a sweet […]
- [Lady Viola’s Accidental Husband by Sofi LaPorte](https://romanceloverblog.com/lady-violas-accidental-husband-by-sofi-laporte/): Lady Viola’s Accidental Husband by Sofi LaPorte is a delightful story. I have really enjoyed this author’s books and I generally pre-order them as soon as I get an alert that she’s working on her next title. This book is segregated into two parts. The first is told from the hero’s point of view. Sebastian Fane is a logical man and not given to effusive emotions. Lady Viola appears in the first scene like a whirlwind. I struggled with the first chapter of this book. I had trouble picturing the opening scene because there’s very little external description to ground the […]
- [Ten Things I Hate About the Duke by Loretta Chase](https://romanceloverblog.com/ten-things-i-hate-about-the-duke-by-loretta-chase/): Ten Things I Hate About the Duke by Loretta Chase is book two in the Difficult Dukes series. I enjoyed this story. It has clever banter and a fast pace picking up soon after the events in A Duke in Shining Armor. In this book, the hero is “His Grace of the Angel Face” Lucius Wilmont Beckingham, the Duke of Ashmont who is mostly an immature drunkard and Cassandra Pomfret the eldest daughter of an esteemed politician named Lord deGriffith. Because his eldest daughter does not choose to live a quiet and subdued life but instead continually pokes her nose into […]
- [My Inconvenient Duke by Loretta Chase](https://romanceloverblog.com/my-inconvenient-duke-by-loretta-chase/): My Inconvenient Duke was book three in the Difficult Dukes series by Loretta Chase. I struggled with this story. Lady Alice Ancaster and the notorious Duke of Blackwood were frequently mentioned in the previous books. Over and over, there was a deliberate building mystery about the relationship between these two. So I was excited to read this third installment in the series. It began prior to book one. So being the stickler that I am for chronological details, I tracked the plot line. Though the timeline stayed consistent, I felt like this book fell far short of the previous two. This […]
- [Biohacking for the Sales Athlete by Nicole Elizabeth Ward](https://romanceloverblog.com/biohacking-for-the-sales-athlete-by-nicole-elizabeth-ward/): Biohacking for the Sales Athlete by Nicole Elizabeth Ward is a wonderful book about optimizing personal health to transform results for executives. I am not an executive, nor am I a sales person. I am just a mom running my home. Even though I am not the target audience for this book, I found it to be so enlightening and helpful. The author gives so many resources to assist individuals in taking practical steps to complete health.  Here is a quote that I found impactful at the very beginning of the book: “Power without regulation distorts. Power without coherence fragments. Power […]
- [The Heart of a Vicar by Sarah Eden](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-heart-of-a-vicar-by-sarah-eden/): The Heart of a Vicar is book six in the Jonquil Brothers Romance series by Sarah Eden. When Sarah Sarvol and Harold Jonquil meet, they are instantly drawn to each other. But youth and uncertainty end their romance in heartbreak. Sarah must return to her native home of America, and Harold returns to school to further his studies. It isn’t for a number of years later that they are reunited, and when they do meet again nothing is the same. Can they find love again? I enjoyed this book to some extent. I really liked the character of Sarah Sarvol. She’s […]
- [Loving Lieutenant Lancaster by Sarah Eden](https://romanceloverblog.com/loving-lieutenant-lancaster-by-sarah-eden/): Loving Lieutenant Lancaster is book four in The Lancaster Family series by Sarah Eden. I’m reading through the Lancaster books and enjoying them; however, this one fell flat for me. I thought it started off strong. The development of Arabella the heroine was intriguing.  She was not mentioned in any of the previous Jonquil brothers series books. But her character is not unbelievable. I liked the character of Linus who is struggling to find his place in the world. I also liked the development of the relationship between the two families of Jonquil and Lancaster. But as the story progressed, the […]
- [Charming Artemis by Sarah Eden](https://romanceloverblog.com/charming-artemis-by-sarah-eden/): Charming Artemis is book seven in the Jonquil Brothers series by Sarah Eden. This is Charlie’s story. For years, he and Artemis Lancaster have been enemies. Charlie sees her as fake and pretentious. Artemis sees him as thoughtless and immature. But when scandal strikes both must make a life altering decision. This book ties up some loose ends . It reunites the Jonquil and Lancaster universes with clarity.  I will say that though I have enjoyed this book, I wished for more romance between Artemis and Charlie. My problem with Sarah Eden’s writing is that in her endeavor to spin sweet […]
- [Best Laid Plans by Sarah Eden](https://romanceloverblog.com/best-laid-plans-by-sarah-eden/): Best Laid Plans by Sarah Eden is part of the Huntresses series, and The Lancaster Family and the Jonquil Brothers universes. In my opinion it’s important to read those other books first because “worlds collide” frequently in this book. In fact, the heroine Ellie Napper in this book first appears in Loving Lieutenant Lancaster as a brief side character. The hero Newton Hughes is close friends with Charlie Jonquil, the youngest Jonquil son.  I enjoyed this story. Ellie Napper’s family is pressuring her to make a match. Since they are not wealthy the Nappers are in Bath for the social season. […]
- [Living Next To Love by Emily Evermore](https://romanceloverblog.com/living-next-to-love-by-emily-evermore/): Living Next to Love is book three in the Steel Brothers Celebrity Romance Series by Emily Evermore. I am thoroughly enjoying this sweet romance. There is enough romantic tension to make your toes curl. The characters are well developed and believable. Everly has loved her best friend Grayson for her entire life. But Grayson only sees her as his best friend. How can Everly move on without her heart shattering into pieces? This was a great adventure with several twists and turns that I just didn’t expect. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
- [Tempt Me, Your Grace by Tamara Gill](https://romanceloverblog.com/tempt-me-your-grace-by-tamara-gill/): Tempt Me, Your Grace is book one in the League of Unweddable Gentlemen series by Tamara Gill. I enjoyed this book. There were twists and turns in the plot that I wasn’t expecting. I thought that the steamy sex scenes were a bit awkward. Gill uses the “c” word a bit too much for me. I liked the heroine Ava. She is an accomplished horse breeder and trainer. Since I am not familiar with horses, I wish Gill had inserted an appendix with definitions. “Luckily here at Knight’s Stables, Ava had her own gallop…” I thought a horse galloped. I didn’t […]
- [Hell Hath No Fury by Annabelle Anders](https://romanceloverblog.com/hell-hath-no-fury-by-annabelle-anders-2/): Hell Hath No Fury is book one in the Devilish Debutantes Series by Annabelle Anders. Flavion Nottingham, the Earl of Kensington is an amazingly handsome man – slim with blonde hair and gloriously cobalt eyes. Unfortunately, he is also a lying toad of a man. Cecily Nottingham, the new Countess of Kensington thought she was marrying for love, but Flavion has proven himself to be a liar and a cheat. Now Cecily wants to find a way out of their sham of a marriage. When she meets Flavion’s cousin Stephen Nottingham, Cecily concocts a plan to drive Flavion to divorce her. […]
- [Temperance The Shackleford Sisters by Beverley Watts](https://romanceloverblog.com/temperance-the-shackleford-sisters-by-beverley-watts/): Temperance is book two in The Shackleford Sisters series. I thought this book was so entertaining. There are some truly laugh out loud moments with Reverend Shackleford and his brood of daughters. Temperance is the second oldest of the Shackleford Sisters and she has quite the temper. I loved the way the author kept true to the character’s development. There are a few steamy moments. I can’t wait to read the next in this series.
- [A Cure For Love by Emily Murdoch](https://romanceloverblog.com/loves-cure-by-emily-murdoch-2/): A Cure For Love is book four in the Sweet Groves Beginning series by Emily Murdoch. In 1844 Sweet Grove, Texas – Marianna Bryant is a beautiful, blind and embittered woman. Robbed of her sight as a small child, Marianna’s life is frustratingly idle. Her family dotes over her as though she were a helpless babe. She blames the loss of her sight on her doctor who failed to cure her blindness. Dr. Gerald Anderson is the new doctor in Sweet Grove. Handsome and gentle, Doctor Anderson is running from a failed practice. He lives with a consuming guilt and hopes […]
- [Schooled by the Bastard by Annabelle Anders](https://romanceloverblog.com/schooled-by-the-bastard-by-annabelle-anders-2/): Schooled by the Bastard is book seven in Miss Primm’s Secret School for Budding Bluestockings. I can honestly say that I have read each one of the books in this series, and this book can truly be read as a stand alone. I enjoyed getting to read Augusta Primm’s story. She’s been a solid character in each of the previous books and I felt like she came alive in this one. There are quite a few steamy scenes, almost to the story’s detriment. I don’t mind a few here and there, but when it starts to feel like I’m just moving […]
- [A Duke To Elude by Wendy May Andrews](https://romanceloverblog.com/a-duke-to-elude-by-wendy-may-andrews/): A Duke To Elude is book one in the Sherton Sisters series by Wendy May Andrews. I think this book is absolutely enchanting. It is so creative in the way it explores the characters. The heroine Lady Rosabel isn’t the typical Regency Era debutante. I enjoyed her mystery and reticence. She has a secret that is affecting every relationship in her life. What can she do when a determined duke seems to be able to see right through Rosabel’s protective shell? Wendy May Andrews does a masterful job of spinning a tale of emotional depth and humor combined. She is also […]
- [The Wrong Heiress for Christmas by Bianca Blythe](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-wrong-heiress-for-christmas-by-bianca-blythe/): Bianca Blythe’s Matchmaking for Wallflower series is a wonderful foray into Regency era life and romance. So far I have enjoyed every single book. This one “The Wrong Heiress for Christmas” is my favorite out of all of them. Celia is a maid in the Fitzroy household, but she is also an illegitimate daughter to the deceased Earl Fitzroy. It is a lovely Cinderella type story but with just enough twists and turns in the plot to keep the reader guessing. Can’t wait to read more of Blythe’s works.
- [Two Scandals and a Scot by Tracy Sumner](https://romanceloverblog.com/two-scandals-and-a-scot-by-tracy-sumner/): Two Scandals and a Scot is book five in the Duchess Society Series. I enjoyed this story. The character development is superb, especially the hero Dash’s transformation. Ever the gambler, Dash is a calculating soul. But an unexpected scandal forever changes his life. Will he run from true love or embrace it? There are many steamy scenes in this book. They are very well written but make sure to have a fan nearby. “He kissed her brow, trailed his knuckle over each eyelid until she closed them. ‘I’m not going anywhere, leannan.’ The words reverberated through him, meaning more than she knew. […]
- [More or Less a Countess by Anna Bradley](https://romanceloverblog.com/more-or-less-a-countess-by-anna-bradley/): More or Less a Countess is book two in the Somerset sisters series by Anna Bradley. This book is incredible. I haven’t read a romance in quite some time that led me through such exquisite pain. The heroine Violet Somerset is a delightful bluestocking who manages to find trouble wherever she goes. The hero is Lord Dare, a dashing rogue. Bradley spins a funny and romantic tale that kept me turning the pages far into the night. I even cried throughout it – something I haven’t done since reading Julie Garwood’s The Secret. I highly recommend this book.
- [Cocky Baron by Annabelle Anders](https://romanceloverblog.com/cocky-baron-by-annabelle-anders/): Cocky Baron is book two in the Regency Cocky Gents series. I can’t say enough good things about this book. Anders weaves a complexity into her characters that breathe life into them. I think this heroine – Bethany Fitzwilliam is one of my favorites. She’s quirky and vulnerable, but also loving and strong. She has been in love with her brother’s best friend Chase for as long as she can remember. While attending a ball, she learns that a trap has been set for him so she goes out to a dark garden to find him. Chase mistakes her for his […]
- [The Red Hot Earl by Darcy Burke](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-red-hot-earl-by-darcy-burke/): The Red Hot Earl is book one in Darcy Burke’s new series Love Is All Around. I thought this was a magnificent story. Ashton Rutledge is a flawed hero who was bullied as a child. Those scars have left him struggling to conquer not just those who bullied him but to conquer himself. I thought Burke handled Ashton’s “handicap” with sensitivity and wisdom. I loved having a touchable, relatable hero. Bianca Stafford is not the typical Regency miss. She is bold and witty and quite determined to have things her way. There were moments when I didn’t much like Bianca and […]
- [Seducing the Marquess by Callie Hutton](https://romanceloverblog.com/seducing-the-marquess-by-callie-hutton/): Seducing the Marquess in book one in Lords and Ladies in Love by Callie Hutton. Lady Eugenia Devon is and always has been a thoroughly proper lady – so much so that she has earned the nickname The Ice Queen. Her husband the Marquess of Devon is a thoroughly proper gentleman of the Ton – so much so that he only visits his wife’s bedchamber on scheduled days of the week and keeps a mistress on the side. When Eugenia stumbles upon a book named “Secrets of the Bedchamber”, she discovers that she desires a marriage of love and passion. But to […]
- [Too Clever By Half by Nancy Yeager](https://romanceloverblog.com/too-clever-by-half-by-nancy-yeager/): Too Clever By Half is book six in The Harrow’s Finest Five series by Nancy Yeager. This is a short, sweet novella. I thought that this story was very unique. Set in 1869 Victorian England, Yeager shines the light on the plight of women and their need for access to higher education at the time. Lady Tessa Harmsworth is competing against James Alcott for the coveted Duke’s Annual Trust Scholarship. Tessa wants women to receive access to education and James wants poor boys to have the means to enter Harrow. But what happens when James finds himself attracted to his enemy? […]
- [Callum: A Seductive Rogue for Lady Eliza by Sasha Cottman](https://romanceloverblog.com/callum-a-seductive-rogue-for-lady-eliza-by-sasha-cottman/): Callum: A Seductive Rogue For Lady Eliza is book three in the Regency Rock Star series by Sasha Cottman. This was an emotionally challenging book to read. Cottman explores the difficult issues of drug use and alcoholism. Callum was my least favorite book in this series and my least favorite noble lord. A raging alcoholic and drug user, Callum is slowly destroying himself and the world around him. Eliza Follett is the woman who has been in love with him for years. Despite his bad behavior, Eliza stays by him. On the surface that seems noble. But Eliza’s character just felt […]
- [Fleet Street Scoundrel by Annabelle Anders](https://romanceloverblog.com/fleet-street-scoundrel-by-annabelle-anders/): Fleet Street Scoundrel is book three of the Rakes of Rotten Row series by Annabelle Anders. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, but I caution my fellow readers to begin at the beginning of this series. Although Fleet Street Scoundrel can be read as a stand alone, there are quite a few characters and references that just make more sense if you read the books in proper order. On the positive side, Anders does a wonderful job of creating unique characters. Each one has their own particular voice and makeup. I liked Lady Caroline Rutherford the heroine. She is pretty, intelligent and […]
- [Building Bridges by Lia Fairchild](https://romanceloverblog.com/building-bridges-by-lia-fairchild/): Building Bridges is book one in the Bridges Brothers series by Lia Fairchild. I thought Fairchild did a good job representing a family that has encountered great loss. Each person is affected by the death of their loved ones and each person reacts differently. Fairchild paints an accurate picture of a family that was once very close but has since become isolated individuals. Logan Bridges is the hero of the story. I liked Logan but I felt that his feelings for the heroine Molly were a bit rushed. I loved the cover; it’s absolutely breathtaking.
- [Highland Defender by Julie Johnstone](https://romanceloverblog.com/highland-defender-by-julie-johnstone/): Highland Defender is the second book in the Renegade Scot series. Book one is the Outlaw King. In this second book, Laird Angus MacLorh is Robert the Bruce’s closest friend and ally in the war to gain the throne of Scotland. Robert asks Angus to escort Lillianna de Burgh to the MacLeod clan fortress. Lillianna is the cousin to Robert’s love Elizabeth, and she is said to be a powerful seer descended from fae ancestors. Lillianna is terrified of being used for her seer powers. When she meets Angus, she doesn’t trust him. “Yet she found herself unable to look away […]
- [His Sinful Touch by Candace Camp](https://romanceloverblog.com/his-sinful-touch-by-candace-camp/): His Sinful Touch is book five in the Mad Moreland series by Candace Camp. When a dark haired beauty disguised as a man turns to Alexander Moreland for help, he is quick to champion her. All she knows is that her first name is Sabrina and that she has been beaten and bruised by someone. Overall, this is a very well written book. But out of the five books in the series that I have read so far, it is not my favorite. There is quite a bit of sex between the hero and heroine. I think Camp missed the mark […]
- [A Fine Gentleman by Sarah Eden](https://romanceloverblog.com/a-fine-gentleman-by-sarah-eden/): A Fine Gentleman is book four in the Jonquil series by Sarah Eden. I struggled through this book. The beginning had some truly hilarious moments such as the “meet cute”. It reminded me of the movie Hello Dolly with Barbra Streisand and Walter Matthau. The heroine is a beautiful Spanish beauty named Mariposa. She is skilled at the art of manipulating and she uses her skill to convince the hero barrister Jason Jonquil to work for her. It is the grumpy vs sunshine trope, but I had a difficult time liking Jason. Somewhere half way through, he began to change his […]
- [Promise Me Tomorrow by Candace Camp](https://romanceloverblog.com/promise-me-tomorrow-by-candace-camp/): Promise Me Tomorrow is book two in The Lost Heirs series by Candace Camp. I really enjoyed this book. This is definitely not a stand-alone story, but this series is so worth reading. There were some hilarious moments with Marianne’s “family”. And the character of Marianne has some witty times too. I liked the hero Lord Justin Lambeth – he’s not your typical Regency gentleman. “He was watching her, and when she noticed him, he did not glance away embarrassed, as most would have. He continued to gaze at her steadily in a way that was most rude. He was tall […]
- [The Governess Gamble by Tracy Sumner](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-governess-gamble-by-tracy-sumner/): The Governess Gamble is part of The Duchess Society series. Although this is a novella and therefore relatively short, the characters are wonderfully complex and well developed. I loved the heroine Francine Shaw, an American. Franny is witty, clever and delightfully vulnerable at times. She is a relatable character. There are some very steamy scenes as only this author can write them. “She was an intriguing mix of daring and naivete. Embarrassment and hunger crossing her face in swift intervals. Her expression begging him to kiss her. The look of unconcealed longing sending an aroused rush through him. What would it […]
- [Lady Ludmilla’s Accidental Letter by Sofi LaPorte](https://romanceloverblog.com/lady-ludmillas-accidental-letter-by-sofi-laporte/): Lady Ludmilla’s Accidental Letter is book one in the Merry Spinsters, Charming Rogues series by Sofi Laporte. In this first book, Lady Ludmilla has written a letter to an old friend only to be surprised by an answer coming from a stranger. Apparently Ludmilla’s friend no longer lived at the previous address, but the man who received the letter responded with a delightfully funny letter. For the next three years, the two strangers correspond and a close relationship is built. The twist is that Ludmilla isn’t exactly sure about the identity of her correspondent and that leads to a series of […]
- [A Wallflower’s Wild Wager by Collette Cameron](https://romanceloverblog.com/a-wallflowers-wild-wager-by-collette-cameron/): A Wallflower’s Wild Wager is book one in the Ladies of Opportunity series. In this collection of stories, a group of close lady friends meet and form their own secret wagering society jokingly called The Ladies of Opportunity. Their intent is to enable female patrons with no means of their own the ability to place bets and achieve some means of financial independence free of any male involvement. Each story in the series focuses on a different woman in the secret society. In this book, Cameron does a masterful job of using the enemies to lovers trope. The heroine Aubriella has […]
- [Ten Days with a Duke by Erica Ridley](https://romanceloverblog.com/ten-days-with-a-duke-by-erica-ridley/): Ten Days With A Duke is book eleven in the 12 Dukes of Christmas romance by Erica Ridley. I enjoyed this book. It is a powerful story of betrayal and redemption. The heroine’s wounds from the past have shaped her response to the   world – a relatable theme. Her bitterness threatens to rob her of a happy future. Will she let go of her pain and move forward, or will she stay trapped in her past?  The characters are unique; the storyline has depth. There are quite a few steamy scenes throughout the story. I think this story was one […]
- [Rescued by the Rake by Annabelle Anders](https://romanceloverblog.com/rescued-by-the-rake-by-annabelle-anders/): Rescued by the Rake is book four in Miss Primm’s Secret School for Budding Bluestockings. Although I think this book is very well written, I found one aspect in particular to be troubling. There are numerous steamy scenes throughout that border on “coquin” encounters. The heroine is even given a “safe”word. I just felt it went too close to the edge for me. Chloe Fortune has made some decisions that have come back to haunt her. Will Captain Edgeworth choose to forgive her? I think the characters grow and develop well. Not my favorite book in the series, but a well […]
- [A Good Day To Marry A Duke by Bettina Krahn](https://romanceloverblog.com/a-good-day-to-marry-a-duke-by-bettina-krahn/): A Good Day To Marry A Duke is book one in the Sins and Sensibility series by Bettina Krahn. I think this is one of the best books that I have read in a long time. Krahn spins a complex tale of an American heiress Daisy Bumgarten looking for a titled lord in 1888 England. This is during the era of the phenomenon of the “Dollar Princesses” – wealthy American women marrying into the aristocracy. The author weaves historical figures throughout the story: Charles Worth the English fashion designer and American royalty Mrs. John Jacob Astor. The characters are unique and […]
- [The Perfect Debutante by Annabelle Anders](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-perfect-debutante-by-annabelle-anders/): The Perfect Debutante is book one in The Perfect Regency Series by Annabelle Anders.  I have had the privilege of being on Ms. Anders Advanced Readers Copy team for several years. She writes with a courage and depth that is rare in the historical romance genre. In this book, she gives a trigger warning at the very beginning. This story includes a  heroine who struggles with self harm in the form of cutting, something that would not have been understood during the Regency era. Although it is a destructive and heartbreaking habit, Anders handles this delicate topic with sensitivity. Louella Rose […]
- [To Have a Highland Thief by Lori Ann Bailey](https://romanceloverblog.com/to-have-a-highland-thief-by-lori-ann-bailey/): To Have A Highland Thief is book one in Lori Ann Bailey’s new Wicked Highland Misfits series. In this first installment, Flora MacGregor is a pick pocket living on the streets of Aberdeen, Scotland trying to care for her fellow  young criminals. When she picks the pocket of Lord Nathaniel Hamilton the Earl of Dunbridge, she has definitely chosen the wrong mark.  Nathaniel is trying to salvage his family’s lost fortune and the priceless item that Flora has unwittingly stolen is vital to his family’s legacy and welfare. What follows is an enemies to lovers trope. I loved this romance. The […]
- [The Duke’s Sacred Vow by Isabel Jacobs](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-dukes-sacred-vow-by-isabel-jacobs/): The Duke’s Sacred Vow is a sweet Christian Regency romance. This author writes a compelling tale that weaves intricate plotlines with some surprising and deeply resonating moments. I liked the portrayal of the heroine Annabel. When she is betrayed by her fiance, she commits a madcap act and rides alone all night to appeal to the Duke of Halmesbury. It is a desperate gamble and one that could see her forever ruined in the eyes of society. What will happen? Will Annabel find her savior or her condemner? A truly enchanting story for anyone who loves Regency romance.
- [Hidden Gypsy Magic by Tena Stetler](https://romanceloverblog.com/hidden-gypsy-magic-by-tena-stetler/): Hidden Gypsy Magic is book three in the A Witches Journey series by Tena Stetler. This was my first book to read by this author and I wish I had read the other two in the series first. I can’t say this book is a stand alone, because I felt lost for the first few chapters. However, the story accelerated and I found myself swept away by the tale of Gwen and Brock. There are a few steamy scenes and some twists and turns that I didn’t expect. I enjoyed the historical sections – not going to give anything away – […]
- [Duchess of His Heart by Collette Cameron](https://romanceloverblog.com/duchess-of-his-heart-by-collette-cameron/): Duchess of His Heart is book six in the Seductive Scoundrels series by Collette Cameron. This is a fairly short book that is engaging and heart-tugging. Regine Maberly is a likable heroine who has sacrificed herself for the good of her family. Probably a situation not uncommon in the Regency era. The hero James Brentwood appears briefly in several of the preceding books in this series. I liked that he is not a peer, but rather a successful solicitor. In typical Cameron fashion, there are a few laugh out loud moments. Overall a delightful story in this series. I was given […]
- [The Third MacPherson Sister by Susana Ellis](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-third-macpherson-sister-by-susana-ellis/): The Third MacPherson Sister is by Susana Ellis. I loved this book. It is a lovely, witty sweet romance that I read in one evening. Ellis does a masterful job of creating characters that come to life and feel vulnerable and relatable. I adored the heroine Rebecca MacPherson. She is not the typical Regency heroine – tall, beautiful and willowy, but is short, a bit on the heavy side and clumsy…so real, and so likable. I enjoyed watching her romance bloom with Miles Framingham, The Duke of Aylesbury. This is a sweet romance with barely a kiss in it, but such […]
- [The Wallflower’s Last Chance Season by Julia Justiss](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-wallflowers-last-chance-season-by-julia-justiss/): The Wallflower’s Last Chance Season is book two in the Least Likely to Wed series by Julia Justiss. I think I fell in love with the characters in this book. This author did a masterful job of developing them. Lord Giles Stratham has been in a tortured “love” relationship for years, strung along by a beautiful widow who enjoys being the center of his life. But when he meets Eliza Hasterling, the innocent and vibrant daughter of a vicar, his world is turned upside down. I enjoyed hating the villain Lady Evans. She is beautiful, coldly calculating and devastatingly clever. I […]
- [Once Upon A Duke by Erica Ridley](https://romanceloverblog.com/once-upon-a-duke-by-erica-ridley/): Once Upon a Duke by Erica Ridley is part of the 12 Dukes of Christmas historical romance series. I really enjoyed this book. Ridley is a master of historical romance. I especially felt drawn to the heroine Noelle Pratchett. She lives in a snowy mountain village called Cressmouth in the northern part of England. Benjamin Ward, the fifth Duke of Silkridge, returns for the probate of his grandfather’s will. He and Noelle had a brief romance in the past. Is it possible for something to spring to life again or has too much time passed? I love all of Ms. Ridley’s […]
- [A Season of Flirtation by Julia Justiss](https://romanceloverblog.com/a-season-of-flirtation-by-julia-justiss/): A Season of Flirtation is book one in the Least Likely to Wed series by Julia Justiss, and it is a breath of fresh air. I loved the heroine Lady Laura Pomeroy and the banker that she finds herself attracted to: Miles Rochdale. The plot began slowly, and there were moments when I felt bogged down in the details of banking and musical mathematics, but then it began to build and tumble. I was carried away by the sudden difficulties faced by Laura and her family and then enamored by the hero. Well done! This is a sweet romance with a […]
- [The Princess Stakes by Amalie Howard](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-princess-stakes-by-amalie-howard/): The Princess Stakes is book one in the Daring Dukes series by Amalie Howard. Howard is one of my favorite authors. She always writes out of the box plots that are so creative and engaging. In this book, the heroine is a beautiful Indian princess named Sarani Rao. Her character is well developed and reflects the struggles a woman of her time might face with prejudice and intrigue. The hero Rhystan is the new Duke of Embry and also a sailing captain. He and Sarani have met before. Their relationship ended in heartbreak and confusion. Is it possible for them to […]
- [The Perfect Spinster by Annabelle Anders](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-perfect-spinster-by-annabelle-anders/): The Perfect Spinster is book two in the Not So Saintly Sisters series by Annabelle Anders. I haven’t read book one in this series, but I will definitely go back now. This book was very well written. I adored Olivia Redfield. She is a heroine with the physical challenge of a lazy eye. I was touched at the way Anders gently approached this topic. She gives Olivia such dignity and such innocence. The hero Gabriel Fellowes is no angel. In fact, he is quite an awful rogue, especially in his relationship with Olivia. I loved this book and couldn’t put it […]
- [A Wedding Code Breaker by Jacki Delecki](https://romanceloverblog.com/a-wedding-code-breaker-by-jacki-delecki/): “The Wedding Code” by Jacki Delecki is the 5th and final book in the Code Breakers Series. I’m honestly not sure how I feel about this story. It felt like it could have been added onto book 4 in the series instead of its own book. The setting of the story is Miss Amelia Bonnington’s upcoming wedding to Lord Derrick Brinsley. This didn’t have much romance in it. Mostly the story is one of spying and intrigue. Enemies in France want to get revenge against the Rathbourne family and bring danger and intrigue into the household. On the whole it is […]
- [Never A Viscount by Sheri Humphreys](https://romanceloverblog.com/never-a-viscount-by-sheri-humphreys/): I enjoyed Never A Viscount by Sheri Humphreys.  It has romance and mystery all rolled up together. “With only the smallest pull she leaned toward him. He moved slowly, giving her the opportunity to balk, but she didn’t. The scent of newly opened roses filled his head, and their lips met in a kiss unlike any he’d experienced. A kiss that made him forget all good intentions of staying in control and ignited a fire that swept through his belly, his chest, his limbs.” My only complaints were a few sections where the pace seemed to lag a bit, and one […]
- [Cocky Viscount by Annabelle Anders](https://romanceloverblog.com/cocky-viscount-by-annabelle-anders/): Cocky Viscount is book five in the Regency Cocky Gents series. I enjoyed this book. Lady Felicity was betrothed to the Earl of Westerley for several years, but when he openly ditches her for another at a ball, she is devastated. I related to the character of Felicity. She doesn’t ignore her pain; she fully allows herself to experience it. Lord Manningham-Tissinton is the hero. But what happens when his actions threaten to ruin Felicity even more than Westerleys? Lots of steamy scenes and even some mystery in this book. There were several plot twists that I didn’t expect.  I am […]
- [Say No to the Duke by Eloisa James](https://romanceloverblog.com/say-no-to-the-duke-by-eloisa-james/): Say No to the Duke is book four in The Wildes of Lindow Castle series by Eloisa James. This is a superb romp. Great chemistry between the hero Lord Jeremy Rosen and the heroine Lady Boadicea Wilde. I laughed and laughed at the witty banter between Jeremy and Betsy (Boadicea). I have read each book in this series and I have enjoyed them all. I do think it’s important to read them in order. Way too many Wildes to just jump in midstream. James is a master with layering her characters and giving them convincing depth. There are a few sex […]
- [The Scandalous Vixen by Tracy Sumner](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-scandalous-vixen-by-tracy-sumner/): The Scandalous Vixen is book two in The Duchess Society Series and was well worth the read. This is an enemies to lovers trope which happens to be my favorite. I adored the heroine Helena and her struggle to find her place in the world around her.  The hero Roan Darlington, seventh Duke of Leighton is a wonderful mix of tender hearted giant and bruising fighter. Somehow Tracy Sumner captures the complex layers in her characters and makes them spring off the page. There are quite a few steamy scenes so have a fan close by. “He spread his palm across her […]
- [Tempt Me With Diamonds by Jane Feather](https://romanceloverblog.com/tempt-me-with-diamonds-by-jane-feather/): Tempt Me With Diamonds is book one in the London Jewels Trilogy by Jane Feather. I wish I could give this book more than three flowers but I can’t. I found the story disjointed and difficult to connect with. When Diana Sommerville returns from South Africa, she finds her ex-fiance living in her home. Thanks to Diana’s dead brother Jem, Rupert Lacey, her ex-lover has inherited half of her estate. The result is a tedious turf war over just about every little detail of the estate. Diana’s character comes across petty, childish and bitter through half of the book. Then Feather […]
- [A Lady’s Scandalous Kiss by Collette Cameron](https://romanceloverblog.com/a-ladys-scandalous-kiss-by-collette-cameron/): A Lady’s Scandalous Kiss is book one in the Scandalous Ladies series by Collette Cameron. Lord Brandon Morrisette is the third son of a marquess who has decided to flout social norms and become a doctor in London. He meets the heroine Joy Shephard Winterbourne when he treats her employer a persnickety older woman, Mrs. Thackpenny – who just wants attention. I thoroughly enjoyed this novella. The storyline is very creative. Usually, in Regency settings, the hero is someone of rank like a Duke or Earl. Joy is someone on society’s boundary. Joy is a loving and kind person, but she […]
- [Not Quite a Scandal by Bliss Bennet](https://romanceloverblog.com/not-quite-a-scandal-by-bliss-bennet/): Not Quite a Scandal is book three in the Audacious Ladies of Audley series. In this story,  Bathsheba “Sheba” Honeychurch is a dedicated Quaker abolitionist who plans to marry her friend Ash to pursue a life of activism. Her plans are upended when Noel Griffin, a sophisticated Londoner, arrives to reveal that Ash is actually the long-lost heir to an Earldom. Noel, who had expected to inherit the title himself, is tasked with training the “unrefined” Ash for his new station. As Sheba fights to keep Ash grounded in their shared Quaker values, she finds herself increasingly drawn to Noel’s hidden […]
- [Home To Stay by Becke Turner](https://romanceloverblog.com/home-to-stay-by-becke-turner/): Home to Stay is book one in the Clocktower Romances by this author. Each book is set in the small southern town of Sunberry, NC. I thought the characters were well thought out. Ava is a  widowed army wife with kids who has to deal with her dead husband’s commanding officer Ryan. Each of the children has their own personalities which stayed consistent throughout the book. I enjoyed the character of Ryan and how he tries to stay loyal in a conflicting situation. But I got really tired of the heroine Ava and her constant haranguing about being “Robey Strong” and […]
- [When You Wish Upon A Duke by Isabella Bradford](https://romanceloverblog.com/when-you-wish-upon-a-duke-by-isabella-bradford/): When You Wish Upon A Duke is book one in the Wylder Sisters series by Isabella Bradford. I think I have stumbled across a treasure. This was my first time reading a Bradford book, and I absolutely adored it. I had a hard time putting it down. This story is so different and unique. I loved the heroine Lady Charlotte Wylder and the hero James Augustus FitzCharles, Duke of Marchbourne or March for short. Bradford does a great job of recreating 1760 England in speech, dress, and activities of the time. There are several hilarious moments and some tearful ones as […]
- [Miss Robinson and The Unsuitable Baron by Sofi LaPorte](https://romanceloverblog.com/miss-robinson-and-the-unsuitable-baron-by-sofi-laporte/): Miss Robinson and the Unsuitable Baron is book two in the Wishing Well Seminary series. I was absolutely enthralled by this story and couldn’t put it down.  This author weaves magic into her tales.  Ellen Robinson is charged by her employer to return a young ward, who shows up on the school’s doorstep, to his guardian in London. But when she makes the acquaintance of the dandy Baron Tewkbury her world is turned upside down.  I think I fell in love with the “nincompoop” hero Edmund, Baron Tewkbury. He is so much more than a fashion minded peacock.  So far, I […]
- [Unexpected Duke by Sasha Cottman](https://romanceloverblog.com/unexpected-duke-by-sasha-cottman/): Unexpected Duke is book four in the Noble Lords series book four by Sasha Cottman. I have enjoyed most of these books. A Lord With Wicked Intentions was my very favorite. But this one has a plot that is just too ludicrous to swallow – a man of wealth and title falls in love with a piano tuner/bar singer. I had been looking forward to this character’s story. Part of the magic of historical romance is being swept away into another world for a brief escape. But when that world borders on the implausible, it makes the story impossible to surrender […]
- [The Seduction of Cameron MacKay by Sheri Humphreys](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-seduction-of-cameron-mackay-by-sheri-humphreys/): I truly believe that I have found a treasure in Sheri Humphreys’ writing. This particular story – The Seduction of Cameron Mackay – is a gripping Victorian romance. This book is set in 1855 during the Crimean War. At this time, the iconic nurse Florence Nightingale has instituted sanitation reforms in the hospital that cuts the soldier’s death rate from 42% to 2%. It is in this historical narrative that we are introduced to nurse Elissa Lockwood. Elissa’s focus has been caring for numerous wounded soldiers. She has not had time to stop and think about her appearance until the attractive […]
- [Ten Ways to be Adored When Landing a Lord by Sarah Maclean](https://romanceloverblog.com/ten-ways-to-be-adored-when-landing-a-lord-by-sarah-maclean/): Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord is book two in the Love by Numbers series by Sarah Maclean. This is Lord Nicholas St. John’s story. Nicholas is a complex character and I enjoyed discovering him. There are numerous steamy scenes. The following is one of my favorite quotes. “Do you? Do you know how much I want you?” She could not look at him. “Yes.” She felt his thumb run over the soft skin of her wrist, the maddening touch setting her pulse racing. “How do you know?” The whisper, dark and coaxing, gave her the courage to […]
- [This Marquess of Mine by Sylvie Sinclair](https://romanceloverblog.com/this-marquess-of-mine-by-sylvie-sinclair/): This Marquess of Mine is book two in the Romancing the Rogue series by Sylvie Sinclair.  I adored this book. I thought the characters were very distinct and well developed. Even though there are twenty-nine chapters, the pace was perfect. In fact, I stayed up late into the night because I couldn’t put it down. However, I can not give it five stars because I found some flaws in the historical side of the story. Characters aren’t referred to accurately in regards to their titles. The heroine’s name changed at one point. Other than those editing faux pas, I absolutely enjoyed this […]
- [A Warriner to Rescue Her by Virginia Heath](https://romanceloverblog.com/a-warriner-to-rescue-her-by-virginia-heath/): A Warriner to Rescue Her is book two in the Wild Warriner’s series by Virginia Heath. Heath has become one of my favorite authors. In this story, Captain James Warriner is a man tortured by his past. Suffering from physical and mental injuries he sustained in the Napoleonic War, he lives his life as a desperate man – fighting against his limitations. When he attempts to rescue Miss Cassandra Reeves from a tree, only to have her fall on top of him, he believes he has met his perfect match. But both people suffer their own private hells that keep them […]
- [Love Me Forever by Donna Fletcher](https://romanceloverblog.com/love-me-forever-by-donna-fletcher/): “Love Me Forever” is book two in the Scottish Duo Series by Donna Fletcher. Brianna of Clan Cameron is a young widow and on a journey to the local village when her carriage overturns. Alone and gravely injured, a stranger finds her and rescues her. Over the weeks alone with him, she is slowly nursed back to health by his gentle touch. Royce, her rescuer, was hideously scarred in battle. Can he and Brianna find true love? Royce has secrets. What will happen when Brianna discovers the truth about him? I thought this was a very well written story. The plot […]
- [Once Upon A Midnight Dream by Collette Cameron](https://romanceloverblog.com/once-upon-a-midnight-dream-by-collette-cameron/): Once Upon A Midnight Dream is book ten of the Chronicles of the Westbrook Bride series by Collette Cameron. It is with a heavy heart that I bid a fond farewell to this series. I have loved all of the books and I highly recommend them. I think it’s important to read the entire series in order. Cameron writes romantic, humorous Regency Era romance stories. Once Upon A Midnight Dream is book ten in the series. Captain Layton Westbrook has encountered and been abducted by a group of nefarious men. Only after being tortured does he manage a narrow escape. He […]
- [The Duke I’m Going To Marry by Meara Platt](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-duke-im-going-to-marry-by-meara-platt-2/): The Duke I’m Going To Marry is book two in The Farthingale Series by Meara Platt. I wish I could give this book ten stars. If you love Julia Quinn and The Bridgerton series, you will adore Meara Platt’s The Farthingale books. I haven’t laughed this hard in a very long time. So much humor and steamy romance with some tear-jerking moments all rolled into one delicious Regency book. I couldn’t put it down and found myself reading far into the night. Platt creates wonderful characters who are so touchable they leap off the page. I adored the hero Ian Markham, […]
- [The Duke Who Hates Christmas by Bianca Blythe](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-duke-who-hates-christmas-by-bianca-blythe/): The Duke Who Hates Christmas is book one in the Holiday for Spinsters series by Bianca Blythe. The cover is absolutely gorgeous. I really liked the character of the heroine in this story – Miranda West. She along with her spinster friends decide to run away for the Christmas holidays to her great aunt’s castle. But before she can leave, her wicked Aunt Imogen and Uncle Cuthbert have other plans that throw her life in disarray. I thought that the development of the characters in this book was lacking. Miranda’s friends largely remained too much of a mystery. The love story […]
- [How To Abduct a Highland Lord by Karen Hawkins](https://romanceloverblog.com/how-to-abduct-a-highland-lord-by-karen-hawkins/): How To Abduct a Highland Lord is book one in the MacLean Curse Book series by Karen Hawkins. This book is hilarious. I had never read anything by Hawkins, and I am so glad that I found this at my online library. I loved the chemistry between the hero Jack Kincaid and the heroine Fiona MacLean. The story moves along at a high pace. The steamy scenes are well written. Here is one of my favorite passages. “He feathered his thumb over her lips, his gaze following the movement. “You have the most beautiful mouth, Fiona. So lovely and lush, like […]
- [The Keeper of Hidden Books by Madeline Martin](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-keeper-of-hidden-books-by-madeline-martin/): The Keeper of Hidden Books by Madeline Martin tells the story of a young woman who is living during the Nazi occupation of Warsaw, Poland in World War II. Beautifully written, this book has a powerful message of love and survival in a truly horrific time in Poland’s history. The author spins a sweeping tale that carried me away for hours. I couldn’t put it down. “The world also needs to remember to never take for granted what has been gifted to us through the sacrifice of others: the right to an education and learning, the power and luxury of freedom, […]
- [ In The Baron’s Bed by JoMarie DeGioia](https://romanceloverblog.com/in-the-barons-bed-by-jomarie-degioia/): “In The Baron’s Bed” is book two In The Castle Book series by JoMarie DeGioia. I struggled through this book. Perhaps I missed out because I haven’t read the first book in the series. Twin sisters live under King Henry II’s protection at his court. When Baron Clayton Beverly rides in to counsel Henry, the twins approach him for a rendezvous. The twins appear as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb characters – mimicking each other and acting like simpletons. But there is more to one of the twins, Liana, than the other. I think I struggled with the plot of this […]
- [Wish Upon a Duke by Erica Ridley](https://romanceloverblog.com/wish-upon-a-duke-by-erica-ridley/): Wish Upon A Duke is book three in the 12 Dukes of Christmas series by Erica Ridley. Without question Ridley is one of my “go-to” authors. If she comes out with a book, I’m on it like a duck on a June bug. “Wish Upon a Duke” is a delightful Christmas novella. Mr. Christopher Pringle is seeking a wife and not just any wife but a love match. Miss Gloria Godwin is tasked to be his matchmaker – helping him find the perfect woman in the little town of Cressmouth “Christmas”, England. What she doesn’t count on is falling for Mr […]
- [Make Me A Marchioness by Gemma Blackwood](https://romanceloverblog.com/make-me-a-marchioness-by-gemma-blackwood/): Make Me A Marchioness is book four in the Redeeming the Rakes Series by Gemma Blackwood.  When Miss Julia Mallory is hired by the Marquis of Chiltern, Charles Harding to be governess to his young daughter Annabelle, Julia has no idea that her heart is about to be conquered by the dark handsome Marquis. Do they have a chance for happiness being from different social spheres? And what will happen if the Marquis discovers Julia’s dark secret? I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Ms. Blackwood spins a wonderful tale weaving excitement, romance and treachery all in one delightful fabric. “What emotion lay […]
- [Long Live the Baron by Nina Jarrett](https://romanceloverblog.com/long-live-the-baron-by-nina-jarrett/): Long Live the Baron is book six in The Inconvenient Scandal series by Nina Jarrett. This was my first book to read in this series, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. However, I think I probably should have gone back and read the entire Inconvenient Scandal series because many of the previous characters appear in this story and I would have had a deeper understanding of the relationships. That said, this story has a great pace and a number of twists and turns in the plot that I didn’t expect. One of my favorite characters was the villain Lady Slight. She was […]
- [Moonlight Encounter by Nina Jarrett](https://romanceloverblog.com/moonlight-encounter-by-nina-jarrett/): Moonlight Encounter is book seven in the Inconvenient Scandals series. I adored this book. When Gwen Abbott wanders outside during a ball to gaze up at the moon, she encounters a handsome stranger. Their magical interlude leads to a scandal that changes both of their lives. Forced to marry a stranger, Gwen decides to try to make the best of the situation. Can they find true happiness? This book picks up right where the previous book “Long Live The Baron” ends. I think this book is very well written. The characters are so relatable. I really identified with Gwen Smythe; her […]
- [The Love Bus by Annabelle Anders](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-love-bus-by-annabelle-anders/): The Love Bus in book one in the Love Series by Annabelle Anders. Anders is a master of historical romance, and I have been a long time fan. So I was a little dismayed when I saw that she was sashaying into the world of contemporary romance. I had a difficult time deciding if I wanted to read this one, because I don’t read contemporary romance. It just hasn’t felt like an escape for me.  I live in modern times and am faced with modern challenges every day. Why would I want to hide in a book that feels too real? […]
- [Emigrating with An Earl by Emily Murdoch](https://romanceloverblog.com/emigrating-with-an-earl-by-emily-murdoch/): Emigrating with An Earl is another novella in the Ravishing Regency series by Emily Murdoch. I found this to be an intriguing story that captured my attention from the start. Samuel Berkeley, Earl of Kincardine is suspected of murdering his close friend and so he flees to a boat sailing to the south of France. Margaret Berry serves as her great aunt’s companion and lives a horrid life. When she meets Samuel her world turns upside down. I thought this book had a lot of depth to it. Murdoch shows the power of honesty in a relationship, as well as the […]
- [Regent Street Rogue by Annabelle Anders](https://romanceloverblog.com/regent-street-rogue-by-annabelle-anders/): Regent Street Rogue is book six in The Rakes of Rotten Row series by Annabelle Anders. I think this story is a great wrap up to a truly well written series. Harold Preston, the Duke of Malum is the character who has a dark presence throughout the other stories. He is a duke who has “cut” society by withdrawing from it and by managing a brothel, the Domus Emporium. The heroine is Lady Melanie Rutherford, the Earl of Standish’s little sister. Standish was the hero in book one Hanover Square Spare. I enjoyed how this author wove all of the characters […]
- [The Highland Knight’s Revenge by Lori Ann Bailey](https://romanceloverblog.com/the-highland-knights-revenge-by-lori-ann-bailey/): The Highland Knight’s Revenge is book four in The Midsummer Knights series by Lori Ann Bailey. The Midsummer Knights series is made up of six books by the following authors: Kris Kennedy, Madeline Martin, Lori Ann Bailey, Eliza Knight, Terri Brisbin, and Madeline Hunter. The Highland Knight’s Revenge is Bailey’s contribution to the endeavor. I enjoyed this book. Giric de Beaumont MacDonald is one braw Scot, and I felt drawn to his honest personality. The heroine Jennet Linton was likable, but Giric stole the show. “He closed the space between them, and his velvety, soft lips landed on hers…sweet, strong, sensual. […]
- [Advising the Viscount by Annabelle Anders](https://romanceloverblog.com/advising-the-viscount-by-annabelle-anders/): Advising the Viscount is book five in Miss Primm’s Secret School for Budding Bluestockings. I highly recommend reading this series in order. Just my personal preference..lots of characters overlap in this story and the experience will be richer if you read the books in order. I enjoyed Adelaide and Damien’s tale. There are a number of steamy scenes and I liked the humor sprinkled throughout. “Any air she’d managed to keep in her lungs swooshed away. “Have you kissed many women, then?” “Enough. And I know kissable lips when I see them.” His gaze flicked to her mouth and then back […]
- [Broken Bridges by Lia Fairchild](https://romanceloverblog.com/broken-bridges-by-lia-fairchild/): Broken Bridges is book two in the Bridges Brothers series by Lia Fairchild. I enjoyed the first book in this series. But this second book, I found a bit disturbing. Although it is well written, I didn’t feel comfortable with certain elements of the romantic relationship. Mason Bridges is the oldest sibling in the Bridges family and a businessman. At thirty-three, he manages a thriving construction company. Ari Mendez is a young homeless woman “squatting” in a building that Mason’s company is renovating. I found the attraction between the two characters to be unbelievable. I didn’t like the heroine. Ari is […]
- [One Night with a Duke by Erica Ridley](https://romanceloverblog.com/one-night-with-a-duke-by-erica-ridley/): One Night with a Duke is book ten in the Twelve Dukes of Christmas series. Although you don’t need to read these books in order, I highly recommend reading Book nine “Dawn with a Duke” before this one. Personally, book nine was my favorite. I struggled with this story. I felt it lagged a bit in the middle, and the heroine didn’t impress me. At times she came across snippy and rude – not very likable. However, this author is very skilled. One of my favorite passages follows: “His blood thrummed. He caressed her cheek, lightly, softly. Drawing her in but […]
- [Miss Darcy’s Christmas by Karen Aminadra](https://romanceloverblog.com/miss-darcys-christmas-by-karen-aminadra/): Miss Darcy’s Christmas is book five in the Pride & Prejudice Continues series by Karen Aminadra. This book is well written but it starts out very slow. I found myself wanting to skip the first two chapters; however, once I made it past chapter five it picked up the pace. Georgiana Darcy is spending the season in London with her aunt in the hopes of finding a suitable match. Once there she meets a devastatingly handsome man named Hugh De Vere. But De Vere is not what he appears to be. When Georgiana is championed by her cousin Colonel Fitzwilliam, she […]
- [Once Upon a Moonlit Path by Ava Stone](https://romanceloverblog.com/once-upon-a-moonlit-path-by-ava-stone/): Once Upon A Moonlit Path by Ava Stone is book one in the Haunted Hearts series. This was my first book to read by Stone and I loved it. Lady Cassandra Priske is visiting Castle Keyvnor to hear the reading of her great uncle’s will. But Cassie has heard that the castle is haunted and is already frightened when she arrives. Jack Hazelwood, Lord St. Giles has tagged along with Cassandra’s cousin Michael in the hopes of seeing her again. Jack has long held a tendre’ for her. But will his attraction to her fade when she claims to have seen […]
- [To Enchant a Highland Earl by Collette Cameron](https://romanceloverblog.com/to-enchant-a-highland-earl-by-collette-cameron/): To Enchant a Highland Earl is book five in the Heart of a Scot series by Collette Cameron. Cameron has become one of my very favorite romance authors. She knows how to weave a story with humor and heartache. Although this is book five in the Heart of a Scot Series, it can be read as a stand-alone. Kendra MacKay is a wonderful character. I liked her vulnerability and her humor. As a little girl, Kendra overheard Broden McGregor the hero make a snide remark about her weight. She has carried the hurt of that insult into womanhood and it has […]

- [About Me](https://romanceloverblog.com/about-me/): Hi, I’m Suzannah Clark. Book Reviewer, Blogger, Creative Entrepreneur, and Mom of 4 This little blog of mine, Romance Lover Blog, was born out of heartbreak—and let’s be honest, a desperate need for some joy and escape. After losing my precious daughter in 2017, I found solace where I least expected it: between the pages of scandalous dukes, feisty heroines, and an overabundance of empire waist gowns. Historical romance, especially anything Regency, became my lifeline. Since then, I’ve devoured and reviewed over 600 books—and I’ve got the opinions (and tea) to prove it. I’m a Native-Texan, Baylor grad—where I studied English, […]
