A noblewoman of frail beauty and exotic mystery fakes her own death to escape the gallows. And now she must flee. In disguise and under a false identity, she finds unexpected sanctuary in the arms of a handsome and arrogant yet gallant British lord—who must defy society to keep her safe . . . and overcome a tragic past to claim her as his own.

So I have to be honest about this book. I couldn’t finish it. Lisa Kleypas is one of my all time favorite authors. I have never not finished one of her books. Well I guess there is a first time for everything. Midnight Angel started off strong with the heroine Tasia wrongfully imprisoned in Russia. I thought that Kleypas did a great job describing the jail cell and building the trepidation of the heroine in awaiting her impending death. Tasia takes poison, fakes her death and is smuggled out of the country to England. Once there she stays with her cousin who finds her a job as a governess. Enter the hero Luke. And this is where the story begins a rapid decline. Luke is an overbearing, unlikable man who forces himself numerous times on Tasia. The character of Tasia doesn’t stay consistent. She is a young virgin with firm religious beliefs. Somehow all of that goes out the window once Luke is on the scene. I felt uncomfortable over and over again during their interactions. This is my first book of Kleypas’s that I can not recommend. It was a meandering fiasco.
