Slater was a Texas Ranger, the only law in a kind where men were men and women were loose. Except for Victoria Stafford. Victoria was like a flower in the desert, soft and lovely in a way that threatened any man with a healthy fear of being fenced in. She was his last choice for a partner, but she was all he had. Their search for her cousin took them through country as rugged and untamed as he was, but with a wild beauty so like Victoria herself that along the way he lost his heart and began to dream of fences.

Satan’s Angel is a stand-alone Western romance published by Candace Camp under her pseudonym Kristin James in 1988.  This book has a special significance in the romance industry because it was the first to be released under Harlequin’s Historical line.  I enjoyed this book. It is a road trip Western set in the late 1870’s. Victoria and Amy are travelling by stagecoach across Texas headed to San Antonio. They encounter outlaws on the way and the saga begins. Even though it was a lengthy read, it held my attention and kept me turning the pages. This book has several steamy scenes. My favorite character was Amy – the sweet shy miss that captures the outlaw’s heart. The only negative is that I felt it needed some more editing work with point of view in mind. Other than that this book is still available on Amazon in paperback. I was given a copy of this book.
