A fun medieval romance set in 1351 a few years after the deadly plague wiped out half the population of England. Balan returns from fighting the French for King Edward III to find a wealthy bride. He has earned respect for his deeds but he is penniless. Murie is the king’s goddaughter and in his care after her parents’ demise. She has earned herself the nickname of Brat because the king has spoiled her rotten. But under the surface, Murie is an altogether different woman. Kind and caring, she has found a clever way to get the king to order her to marry. Now she must find the right man. This book has some wonderful comedy in it with a charming dash of mystery. I enjoyed the characters. They are all very well- developed. There are a number of steamy scenes, and a few that end hilariously.
