Good neighbors invite you over for dinner, bring you baked goods to welcome you to the neighborhood, and wave hello at the mailbox.

Good neighbors do not destroy your life.

When Bryant and Harper Page move to Lancaster Mills, their first encounter with their new neighbors--Jason and Tori Fuller: beautiful, strange, and terrifying--is anything but a warm welcome. Despite their hesitations, the Pages are intrigued by the people they now share a street with.

As their curiosity gets the best of them, they discover that there's much more to the Fullers than meets the eye. Their new neighbors have secrets, that much is obvious, but just how dangerous could they be? With two haunting shadows lingering over their house and lives, the Pages' relationship is tested in every way.

What exactly makes a good neighbor?

And what makes a good neighbor bad?

I usually only read romance, and mostly historical romance, but several years ago, I participated in a spring time reading contest. Read and post reviews and win a prize. I didn’t win since I am not a speed reader. But I was introduced to many new genres and authors. It was a great experience. Out of that contest came quite a few great books. One of them was The Good Neighbors by  Kiersten Modglin. This book is a heart pounding suspense story that will make you feel like you have run a mile in under a minute. I felt drawn to this story from the beginning. Harper and Bryant Page are great characters. I really liked Harper’s soft heart and her determination to make something special in her marriage. I did struggle with the point of view that the author used to tell this story. In third-person omniscient point of view the narrator is an outside observer who knows the thoughts and feelings of all the characters.  I was troubled by the inconsistencies with Bryant’s character. I don’t want to spoil anything about the story, but I almost felt tricked by the Modglin in the end.  Was the author lying to the readers? Did I just misunderstand the character of Bryant? Also I did feel that there were a few loose ends. But on the whole, a great read. I was given a copy of this book.
