The Pride of Lions by Marsha Canham is book one in the Scotland Trilogy series. I can not say enough good things about this masterfully written romance. The Pride of Lions is set in England in 1745 during the Jacobite rebellion. Charles Edward Stuart made a desperate attempt to restore England’s throne to the Stuart monarchy against the Hanoverian King George II. Canham weaves true history all throughout her book without over burdening her readers. Catherine Ashbrooke is a spoiled English beauty who chooses to make her would-be lover jealous one night by kissing a dark, handsome stranger. When the two men are provoked into a duel, Catherine’s destiny is settled. She must marry the victor. This romance has spies, intrigue, danger, passion, betrayal, wonderfully written steamy scenes. It is truly a breathtaking story and one that I read at least once a year.
