I truly believe that I have found a treasure in Sheri Humphreys’ writing. This particular story – The Seduction of Cameron Mackay – is a gripping Victorian romance. This book is set in 1855 during the Crimean War. At this time, the iconic nurse Florence Nightingale has instituted sanitation reforms in the hospital that cuts the soldier’s death rate from 42% to 2%. It is in this historical narrative that we are introduced to nurse Elissa Lockwood. Elissa’s focus has been caring for numerous wounded soldiers. She has not had time to stop and think about her appearance until the attractive Dr. Cameron MacKay shows up and they start working together. Drawn to each other even though romance is strictly forbidden, Elissa feels she’s met her match. But once discovered, Elissa is sent home under a cloud of scandal and Cameron is sent to the front lines. Although they exchange a few letters, Elissa receives a crushing letter from Cam cutting off the relationship. Brokenhearted and Back in England, Elissa works as a nurse at a hospital. It’s in this setting that Cameron returns. But he’s not the man he once was.  

Humphrey’s second chance tale is like riding a massive roller coaster. At first, you are moved slowly up a giant track with jarring starts and stops but then you reach the top, suddenly plunging down and coasting through tight turns and steep slopes – a heart pounding, gut wrenching ride. I couldn’t put it down. Humphreys uses her medical knowledge with astute expertise. It deepens the story and never takes away from it. A wonderful romance! Can’t wait to read more heart pounding stuff! Come for the ride. You won’t regret it.
