Lady Madeline Mulbourne, widow of a renowned art critic, has secrets. Pretty secrets. Sparkling secrets. Ever since the wars on the continent ended, she's been determined to return the jewels the French confiscated to their rightful owners...even if it means stealing them herself. Lord Arthur Carmichael, Marquess of Bancroft and former spy, is in need of a bride. Who would be more suited than the woman he'd once intended to marry? But when jewels disappear at balls she's attended, Arthur suspects Madeline might have more than one reason for not wanting to marry him...
To Catch A Baroness is book five in the Matchmaking for Wallflowers series by Blythe. When I first read this in 2017, the book was titled A Marquess for Convenience. In this story, Lady Madeline Mulbourne is a widowed baroness who hides her intelligence under a frivolous facade. Her aim is to locate stolen jewels confiscated by the French during the Napoleonic War. When she meets Lord Arthur Camichael, Marquess of Bancroft she enters a marriage of convenience with him. She has no idea that he is a former spy, and he has no idea that she is using him to gain access to high society so she can recover stolen jewelry. I read this story in 2017 and loved it. Ms Blythe is a fantastic author. The story has so many layers. I laughed out loud and woke up my poor husband in the middle of the night since I couldn’t put the book down. There are some sensual scenes, but if you love Regency romance this is a definite must read.
